Women's Car Insurance Fear of Garages
Date: 24 November 2006
A new survey, by online women's car insurance specialist
Sheilas' Wheels, shows that women are putting their cover in jeopardy because
they don't want to visit garages.
The study indicates that thousands of female drivers are driving faulty
motors because of their 'stay-away' approach to the garage.
The survey was named 'Girls and Garages' and indicated that 30% of females
have driven potentially unsafe vehicles through not visiting the garage.
Those who replied felt that the garage was intimidating because it is mainly
men involved in the service.
A Sheilas' Wheels spokeswoman, Jacky Brown, said "It's astounding that so
many women motorists are potentially putting their lives on the line by
driving around in cars that they know have a fault, just to avoid visiting
a garage."
"With over 14 million female drivers behind the wheel on UK roads, it makes
sense that their specific needs are met." Twenty per cent said they would
rather go to the doctors than visit a garage for a service or check.
Official statistics from yougov.com provide a contrast to this report. Their
figures show women drivers to be more considerate of the prevailing road
and weather conditions than men. This is just one reason why women are offered
cheaper women's car insurance cover.
