Save your Car Insurance - Safe Winter Driving
According to the supermarkets, October means that Christmas is coming. Now it is November, it could mean they’re almost
selling out of stock if you believe the hype.
What we can say for sure is that conditions on the road will only get worse, with more rain and even a possibility of frost.
The British weather can change from one extreme to the next.
According to Department of Transport figures, fatalities among vehicle occupants rise steeply in October and continue
to rise to around 200 a month in December.
Whatever your standard of driving, be a learner or with years of no claims behind you, it pays to take into consideration
the road conditions before you set out on a journey.
Here is a check list to avoid any costly mistakes that could lead to a
car insurance claim, perhaps because you failed to drive safely
according to the road conditions.
Get a good emergency kit. This should include:
- High visibility vest and a warning triangle
- Travel blanket
- Bottle water and high energy food (chocolate)
- Mobile phone
- Torch
- Glass cleaner and cloths
- De-icer and scraper
- First Aid kit
- Map
- A spade if snowy conditions
You should also make sure your vehicle is serviced up to date. It is advisable to go through a vehicle check list to include:
- Condition of tyres and brakes
- Windscreen wiper wear
- Windscreen washer topped up
- Tyre replacements/repairs
- Anti-freeze in radiator coolant
- Confirm lights are all working
- Check windows and mirrors are all clear.
A few simple checks can save you a whole lot of grief and help you stay safe on the road in Winter.
